Dental question...?

I have pain and swelling in my gums on the bottom of the right hand side toward the back. My teeth leading back towards the pain kind of tingle. I assume it is a wisdom tooth coming in and I have an appointment first thing Monday morning. The problems/concerns I have are that I have not been to a dentist in 6 yrs, and it could be something more serious. Also none of my other wisdom teeth have come in. I am 24. What can I safely do to alleviate the pain before my appointment? What warning signs should I look for to seek emergency treatment before my appointment? Is mouthwash safe? Diluted peroxide? Anbisol? Any help would be appreciated!

Dental question...?
there is a mouth wash out there you can find at Walgreen's that has peroxide in it it is called peri something but i can't remember entire word it works great also try putting compresses against your cheek some people like it cold some people like it hot for me i would switch off and on so you figure out what you like best tylonol or advil are great but talk to your dr. before you take it i do not know your medical history good luck hope you feel better soon tooth pain is the worst
Reply:dentist time
Reply:how embarasing. put it away
Reply:Orajel or Baby Orajel
Reply:brush your teeth with cheeze whizz.
Reply:ice is the simplest and safest way, there are also some over the counter oral anesthetics you can use if the pain is really bad
Reply:I'd try a general painkiller (aspirin) or that Vick's Chloroseptic spray that numbs the area. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless the pain becomes unbearable or you start to exhibit additional symptoms.

Of course, consult the doctor ASAP for guidance.
Reply:Go to Walgreen's and ask the pharmacist about some over the counter mouth wash, by Colgate (not sure the name. Ora-something I think). It's for short term use only. Gets rid of infection.
Reply:you're pre-panicking!

First it's LIKELY wisdom teeth...

NO to the emergency treatment..

Mouthwash is safe... so is ambisol...

Use saline solution.
Reply:Aleve works fabulously for tooth pain. This just happened to me!! It was a wisdom tooth--they don't always come it at the same time. I wouldn't use Ambesol. If you take Aleve, you won't have to. You can use mouthwash, but the cold may really hurt if the teeth are sensitive.
Reply:Motrin or tylenol and a salt-water rinse would be safest. If it gets any worse go to the er. If it doesn't get worse, just keep your appt.
Reply:just keep brush 3 times a day like in the morning and at lunch time after u eat lunch and brush and at dinner u eat and brush after u ar done and go to bed do that every day and they don't hurt that bad.
Reply:If you get a high temperature then you could seek emergency treatment. It could mean you have a bad infection and that could go wrong very quickly. Infections can spread fast, so check that temp. I use an anbesol cream, not liquid. The numbing cream stays on longer. Take ibuprofen on a regular basis, this will help take down swelling and help the pain. If these don't work then call the dentist and see if they can give you something for the pain before your appointment. If the dentist wont see you then go to your doctor. This could be a terrible weekend if you dont have any relief from your pain. Take care.
Reply:All you could really do is take Advil. It's an anti-inflammatory, so it'll take abit of the swelling away and make it feel abit better but it won't take the pain away completely, just sort of mask it.

Just because only one of your wisdom teeth is coming in doesn't mean you don't have the other three. It could be that they can't erupt because there's no space for them, or they're badly positioned. It's also possible that you don't have all four. Some people don't even have them at all, although most do.

It might not even be your wisdom tooth. You might have a cavity that has gotten so deep that it hit the nerve and needs a root canal, or it could just be a simple cavity. By the way you describe it hurting so much it's probably a rootcanal or a wisdom tooth extraction you'll need.

Now the obvious question...why haven't you seen a dentist in 6 years? I'm surprised that that tooth is the only thing that hurts you. Don't be surprised if your dentist says you have other cavities, you've neglected your teeth and gums...you're old enough to know you should see a dentist at minimum once a year, not every 6 years.
