Dental Stitches Left In (EMERGENCY MAYBE?)?

My mom got stitches (might have been disolvable) after getting some teeth pulled. The gum is healed and she pulled one stitch and thought that was it so she didn't go back to get the stitches removed. Now a few weeks later, she says the stitches feel like there is gum grown over the stitches. The stitches aren't visible and there's a ridged piece of gum where the stitches were. What should she do?

Dental Stitches Left In (EMERGENCY MAYBE?)?
ooooooooooooo tell her i said get well soon
Reply:Go back to the dentist. The only way you'll be able to find out for sure is through a dental exam.

Best
Reply:Call the dentist office and ask if they were dissolvable. If they weren't she needs to be seen by the dentist(not an emergency). If they were dissolvable she doesn't . The ridge is just scar tissue most likely.
Reply:almost all dental stitches now will dissolve it my just be a place where the gums have scared but she may want to go in and have it checked out because it can turn into an abscess if it has been grown over or at least have her call the dentist and see how many stitches she had. to be sure there is not still one in her mouth best of luck to the two of you! hope she feels better!
Reply:Go back and make sure that all the stitches were removed, it is not an immediate emergency, but you should get it done Monday.

What philanthropic groups offer emergency funds for dental work to the disabled poor?

Individual on Social Security disability, age 49, needs extensive dental work without adequate funds. Dentists in region will not accept payment plans for the amount of work needed. Individual now has chest pains which may be originating from needed severe dental work. Person is not on Medicaid, only receives Medicare which does not cover this work. Other medical problems evident in individual.

What philanthropic groups offer emergency funds for dental work to the disabled poor?
Contact your state dental association, listed in the yellow pages under "American Dental Association." In my state anyway, there is a charity care organization that is accessed through the state association. The patient you describe is exactly who this activity is designed to help.

If you add the state to your question, you might get a more exact response.
Reply:My sister in law went to a dental school. It was really cheap (around$10). She went a couple of times and eventually was someone's final project (Free dental work). That's how much work she needed. I think her out of pocket for roughly 30 cavities was $20.

I need the name of an organization that will pay for emergency dental surgery please?
She should be on some type of medical assistance that would cover the surgery.
Reply:Try your local social services..
Reply:Check out your local Senior and Disability organization, Adult and Family Services, or Social Security. They might not be able to directly help you, but they could have a list of recourses that could. What kind of handicap does she have? Does she have mecicaid or medicare? Good luck with that.

I have no job and no insurance, how do i get emergency dental help in Jacksonville , fl?

Try the "We Care Physicians Network (352.334.7926) and the Equal Access Clinic, located at the Salvation Army. Such programs provide limited services that are free or reduced in fees." Or you could call the Salvation Army in Jacksonville and see if they know of anything. I think the Salvation Army is affiliated with the Sulzbacher Dental Center for the Homeless in Jacksonville, (904) 355-6100. Not sure they can help you if you aren't homeless, but probably they could at least refer you to someone else.

Try filing for medicare.
Reply:Look in the yellow pages and start calling dentists, and hope to find one that will bill you and let you make payments.
Reply:there are local church charities that run free dental clinics, you can call the local dental school for free dental clinics as well. ask a hospital social worker for references.

I am American and visiting Okinawa, JP. How can I get emergency dental work while I'm here?

I'm not military. I need a dentist near Chatan Town. Of course I'd be nice if the dentist can speak English.

I am American and visiting Okinawa, JP. How can I get emergency dental work while I'm here?
Actually, with you being an American, and the insurance company is most likely an American Insurance company, the approved list of providers will be American. What I would do is contact your regular Dentist, see what strings he / she can pull with referals. Either that or, depending on what is going on%26lt; go to the Emergency room. If you have an absessed tooth, it has to be taken care of before you can fly (if I remember stuff from Dental Assisting School correctly). If you have a broken tooth, and it's broken just the right way, either it would be ok long enough for you to get back to the states, OR it could develop into an absess. But to tell you the truth, without knowing more about the tooth in question, I can't really say what the best move is beyond calling your regular Dentist. I'd also get together some names of local Dentist incase your dentist wants to do a referral. that way you don't have to call him back or have him sit on hold while you look stuff up.
Reply:go back in time and purchase travel insurance
Reply:well I would start by calling your health insurance provider to see if they have anyone that can do the work with it being covered. I bet if they do that person would be ok, if they don't speak English you can probably arrange to bring along a translator.
Reply:Your gonna have to get a personal refferal to a Dentist. It's the only way to find the good ones.

I am an American visiting England and I need emergency dental care. What do I do?

I don't have any medical insurance and don't qualify for their NHS, but I lost a tooth and am panicked. Do I just fork over the money and hope someone will help me?

I am an American visiting England and I need emergency dental care. What do I do?
you will have to see a private dentist. its not overly expensive though don't worry. look in a local phone book, or go to a NHS dentist surgery, they will give you contact numbers.
Reply:come to australia and we can start from there...
Reply:If you don't have insurance, then you can choose to pay for the care in England or do without. Keeping your teeth is a very good thing and to be encouraged.

Does anyone know of a way to get emergency dental assistance?

My husband does not qualify for health insurance due to a heart attack he had last year. He is only 41. His teeth are badly infected, from past health problem. He had cancer when he was 24 and the treatments are not good on your teeth. When he had this heart attack the doctor told him that he needed to take care of his teeth immediately or he would suffer another heart attack. We are desperate, cant afford to do this on our own as with a cancer patient you just cant have your teeth pulled they have to be surgically removed and only so many at a time.

Does anyone know of a way to get emergency dental assistance?
I agree with MK, as a practicing dentist I know that there are oral surgeons that work with public assistance (DFCS) in almost every state that should be able to help you out with your situation. Infected teeth (Abscessed Teeth) are extremely dangerous and can be very life threatening if not treated as this infection can spread to the throat causing airway obstructions, and can also spread to the heart and brain causing sometimes fatal complications. I highly recommend calling your county Dept of Family and Childrens Services and ask about dental care, if they are not able to answer your questions they will find you someone that will.
Reply:WoW your husband has been through a lot! An Oral Surgeon would be your best bet, safest that is for sure. Some Oral Surgeons do work with public assistance and you can give the ones in your area a call to find out. Something as important as this I would hate to see you go to clinic that may not take all the precautions your husband needs. Hospitals may be able to help direct you to a grant program based on income/hardships, but again it requires research on your part. Good luck! Once your husband has those bad teeth removed, if there are any teeth remaining he should also have fluoride treatments to help keep those teeth as solid as possible, especially while undergoing cancer treatment. Wish you the best!!!!
Reply:Ok this takes thought and research so let's get started. Let's say you try calling your state medicaid office first and they will pre qualify you and or provide direction and available reesources. If you qualify then they assist with money that is good! The best part is the pay only for extractions and medically needy hospital extractions.

I don't have any medical insurance and don't qualify for their NHS. Do I just fork over some money and hope someone will help me? I have lost a tooth and I'm pretty panicked. I don't even know how to categorize this question correctly.

I am an American visiting England and need emergency dental care. What can I do?
Try and find an emergency dentist they'll do it for ya

I am on medicare and medicaid and need emergency dental work, does any one know if an extraction is covered?

I am over 18 and under 60.

I am on medicare and medicaid and need emergency dental work, does any one know if an extraction is covered?
Dental coverage for medicaid differs from state to state. In the state I reside in after the age of twenty medicaid will only cover extractions and the x-ray. Medicaid will not pay for the emergency exam though so you will have to pay for that portion out of pocket. Check with your local office and see what your medicaid will pay for.
Reply:Are those teeth protruding from the top of your head? I'll take'em out for you, sweetheart!
Reply:I'm not positive, but I believe emergency dental care is covered. Call your medicaid office and ask your case worker to be sure.
Reply:extractions yes,

real dental care - no.
Reply:You get covered according to the plan opted. Most provide for emergencies. However, better read the insurance fineprints. Good luck.
Reply:Call the duel~medi's.... they can answer it for you. I think for emergencys they will let you get extractions. Better check, though...
Reply:yes it is covered
Reply:if your tooth is infected they will have to do it right away and then bill you. but the extraction is covered, there might be like a 20 dollar cover charge or something like that
Reply:Last I knew they will pay to have it pulled but they wont pay to save it. They definitely wont do preventive. now does that make sense?

Iwould like to know how to get emergency dental work with no insurance on long island NY?

I am in extreme pain i need a root canal , no money , no insurance

HELP!!!!!!!!!

Iwould like to know how to get emergency dental work with no insurance on long island NY?
+ There are several choices for you, the least expensive is probably the Dental schools. Please visit the links below to find the closest one. The VA is another chioce if you are a veteran.

Good luck
Reply:call stony brook university. they have a dental program and you can get treatment there by dental students (overseen by a dentist - of course) don;t know what - how much they charge, but worth checking into. if not then then ask them what they recommend or try county health department
Reply:Stony brook University has one of the 4 dental schools in New York. The others are Columbia and NYU in the city, and Buffalo. So, on LI, Stonybrook would be the most practical for you.

Go there asap and register for the dental clinic. You will be treated at a greatly reduced fee. You will be treated by dental students under the supervision of a licensed dentist. All specialties are represented - so if you need root canal or surgery, it will be done there. The upside is greatly reduced fees and generally everything will be done correctly, as the students are carefully scrutinized, graded on these procedures, and perfection is taught and demanded. On the down side is the time factor. What might take an hour in a dentist's private office may take 3-4 one hour visits at the dental clinic, as the students are learning and are very slow, and every step must be checked by a professor and graded. You will get excellent work but it will take a while. Also, there is usually a long waiting list to get into the dental school clinic, so go register asap. If they can't take you right away, still register for future treatment. Then for treatment of the immediate emergency to a hospital that has a general dentistry residency program, where they will be able to treat the emergency problems. Good luck to you.!
Reply:Sorry about your pain. I know how miserable that can be. The dental schools might be a good idea. I'm not sure. Have you checked into dental discount plans? I found one in Florida that pays for most of my dental bills and it only cost me less than $100 per year. You might want to consider that. At least you get to pick your own dentist that way. I found my plan at http://dental-ppo.com You can search for plans in your zip code and they have lists of dentists in your area you can use.

How can i get financial help for emergency dental work?

Call the Department of Health in your city or state agency. Sometimes Dental School at the local universtity have discounted services, if the students perform work

How can i get financial help for emergency dental work?
Your dentist should have applications in his/her office to apply for financial help. Please know that the interest rate on those loans are very high. If you have a credit union where you work, you might get a better interest rate. In fact, the interest rate on your present bank card, if you have one, may be a better rate than you will receive from the places who finance dental work.
Reply:Care Credit, which is a form of credit specifically for cases like yours, charges no interest for a whole year (unless you miss a payment.) Ask your dentist about it, or call around until you find an office that accepts it.
Reply:Go to Your local general assistance program. They will be able to get You a Medicaid Card. Call Your local dentist to see if they accepy medicaid cards(All of them do, I think)

Do you have to pay for emergency dental treatment in the uk?

If you can get a dentist to see you yes but most won't even look at you unless you're registered with them

Do you have to pay for emergency dental treatment in the uk?
Not if you go to a dental hospital. (I believe)
Reply:No def not, its called g-dens.
Reply:yes unless you are on benefits
Reply:who cares, why would you ask a stupid question like that. Are you going to go to the uk for a dentist apointment
Reply:Yep you pay for everything even on the national health
Reply:yes
Reply:Not if ur with nhs i dont think,go 2 the hospital if necessary. If its a private dental surgary theyll charge ya big time
Reply:Not straight up atleast, but the NHS system is failing, you are entitled to see a GP free if you are resident or national (or just allowed to reside in the country) and they refer you to a specialist clinic depending on the urgency and severity of your condition, then you'll go on a long waiting list after which you must call and depending on how old you are and your income etc you will be put into one of 3 fees bands each getting progressively more expensive, or you could pay straight up for an immediate private appointment (as they are conveniently almost always free) - if its emergency chances are you will have to pay anyway.

If you don't go through a GP and go straight to a General Hospital (its 50 quid to just get checked and told what's wrong with you/ just to look at you) - and maybe more for specialist hospitals.

Some specialist dental clinics have a policy that if you fail to attent a confirmed appointment you can never be treated at that clinic again.

But ultimately as an ANSWER to your question, YES, chances are you will indeed have to pay for the treatment. How much is negoitiable on the bands you fit into, benefits etc - but you'll def have to fork something out. Private health care costs alot.

Plus: If its emergency, and you're not using emergency broadly as in it can't wait due to pain, infection complications you are just another person to them and queues are months long - and so you will probably be forced to get a conveniently available private appointment sooner.

I do not mean to dishearten you but old people in need of heart surgery necessary to live are often put on a waiting list of a year or more in hope that they 'die' before the NHS needs to fork out. Makes me wonder why I ever decided to pursue an avocation in Medicine. Hoping to do things different I guess.
Reply:yes. sadly £50 ...before they even TREAT you
Reply:You never used to but I needed a sat emergency app. last week so I rang NHS Direct and they said that they charged £15 for the app. and £42 if anywork needed doing. Dental charges suck...

Do you have a dental hospital nearby? They are free as it is mostly dental students doing the work, the clinics start around 8.30 am and it's first come first serve, weekdays only.
Reply:yes i think u do unless u are on benefits
Reply:i dont know where u live but in birmingham there is a dental hospital. Students do the work but they are fully supervised and also the treatment is free.
Reply:Unfortunately yes, either £15.50 or £42.40 on the NHS. God knows how much you have to pay privately.
Reply:if you not on benefits yes if you are remember to take you benefit papers with you
Reply:if you can get into a NHS centre no charges finding one is hard enough

but if you use an ordinary dental practice then you will have to pay although not expensive

contact NHS direct they should have one in your area
Reply:afraid so
Reply:yes you do sorry

I think dental plans are bad over there.

Or maybe that's all just BS.
Reply:Good luck with your search....I think free dental treatment is a thing of the past.

I go to an NHS dentist but you still have to pay but at least its cheaper than private.....the only way you might get it free is if your claiming some sort of benifits and I think you would have to visit an NHS registered dentist.

Try your local hospital they might be able to tell you
Reply:NEVER LAND!! aka michael jacksons crib :)
Reply:St Barts has a dental hospital, but get there early as it's first come first served and the allocation for the day is usually filled up quite quick.

It opens at 8am and if it's anything like my local one, there's a queue ready when it opens.

How much extra $$ is an 'EMERGENCY' dental visit? like for an extraction?

Call your local dental society to get the names of dentists that provide free, low cost and sliding scale fee services. Most cities, states and counties have them. The dental societies are usually named after the city, state and counties they are in.

How much extra $$ is an 'EMERGENCY' dental visit? like for an extraction?
Last time i went in for an emergency pulling, it cost me about $150, but that was a few years ago. Now, I have good dental insurance so i can actually see a dentist on a regular basis, saving me the trouble of emergency sessions.
Reply:Unless you are speaking of 'Emergency' as in going during non-business hours... you should just be able to call the dentist first thing in the morning and see if they have any openings in their schedule or if they could put you on as a call in should one open up. Then you would be looking at a normal exam type visit, well with an extraction as well. Typically the exam itself can run you anywhere from around $60-140.

I would also like to suggest you take a look at Ameriplan, and even search for providers in your area, who knows your dentist could be on the list of participating providers and if so, you could be looking at roughly $12-50 for the exam %26amp; anywhere from $48-130 for the extraction itself? Take a look at http://www.mybenefitsplus.com/40398854

I personally use the plan and love it! Let me know if there is anything else you have questions about or if you'd like to enroll we can do so, and get you in to the dentist asap, possibly even Monday, or at the latest Tues.

Hopefully this can help you!
Reply:I work at a dentist office in Utah, and and emergency visit is about 60, x-ray is about 30, and to pull it it could be anywhere from 125-180.

Does Texas offer emergency dental financial assistance?

I have several severely infected teeth and I'm getting sick, dizzy, in unbearable pain. I don't have money up front for extractions. I have never tried to apply for welfare or state assistance and I've been running circles on the internet trying to figure out what to do.

Does Texas offer emergency dental financial assistance?
i read the sign on the highway there that says ---don't mess with Texas--- so I dont know
Reply:First of all you will need antibiotics and you should pursue that as soon as you can. Call your local welfare office and set up an appointment since you may qualify. Beyond that you could look for a dental clinic if you are in an urban area, they might be able to work with you financially. I always question how folks don't have money for medical care but can always access the Internet easy enough.
Reply:No, we've never gotten any in the 17 years we've lived in Texas. We never have any luck with insurance.
Reply:Try your local county health department. Or if you have a large teaching hospital in the area they might have a dental school where you can get it done.

Are you employed? If so, don't you have dental insurance?
Reply:Well I read a story in a magazine how two reporters pretended to have a toothache in Texas and went to several dentists to see if they would admit them with no money. Most did and were really nice.So I think that it is highly possible that Texas offers dental financial assistance. The conclusion of their investigation was if you have a toothache with no insurance or money..Go to Texas.

How to get emergency dental help w/o insurance or money to pay for dental work?

My tooth aches extremely as I type! I have no insurance and I have no money at all to even pay for service. I have not seen a Dentist in over 4 years because I could not afford it and I have no Insurance. I know my teeth are extremely bad! I can easily feel the holes in my teeth. I have chunks of tooth dropping everytime I eat. What am I to do? I have looked everywhere online to get help here in Indiana and I get nothing anywhere close! I need to get this done fast! Like today It needs to get worked on! HELP!!!!!

How to get emergency dental help w/o insurance or money to pay for dental work?
Some dentists will set up a payment plan. You just have to talk to them.

OR....if you don't mind credit cards, there's one called Care Credit. It's for Doctors, dentists, and vets only. You can apply online at their website, carecredit.com, or at your dentists' office if he's willing to do the paperwork for you. I have the card. I got it for emergency purposes like you. I dont' have insurance either and needed a filling replaced. Not cheap at $300. The card helped tremendously. Check it out if you don't mind having a credit card. But like I said, the card can only be used at doctor, dentists, and vet offices, so you'll have less chance of out of control spending on it.
Reply:Move to Canada. It's free there
Reply:First of all you need to take care of your teeth. BRUSH THEM!! Or brush what you have left... You'll need to get State Aid since you cannot pay.

Needed emergency dental work, told supervisor, left work, he lied to owner, got fired. can I sue?

You should be able to obtain documentation from the dentist as to the work performed. Get something from him that specifically states that what was performed was considered emergency surgery. Take all that to your boss and he should either rehire you, no questions asked. If not, then you have every right to sue. Good luck!

Needed emergency dental work, told supervisor, left work, he lied to owner, got fired. can I sue?
If you have anything written, yes, or witnesses. If not,

no.

Emergency dental care and cost??

If I NEED to have the part of my crown I cracked off(a crown over a root canal) and can't afford it, will the Dentist HAVE to give me a payment plan?

Emergency dental care and cost??
Usually if the crown is less than 3-5 yrs. old, it will be replaced at no charge. Sometimes there is a catch like....visiting your dentist for your bi-annual check ups.

If it is an older crown, you will have to pay for it. Some Dr's will work w/ you on a payment plan. Other's prefer full payments. Then there are the Dr.'s that work w/ a company called care credit.

Care Credit is an agency that pays the Dr. for your treatment and you make monthly payments to them. There is no interest charge. The Dr. is responsible for that.

This way the Dr. knows he is getting paid for his services and doesn't have to worry about collections and you have a chance to make ends meet.

Visit www.carecredit.com

If the porcelain on the crown is chipped, then you may be able to replace it w/ bonding material. That is alot cheaper than a crown.
Reply:unfortunately after going to the dentist today, I now know that the dentist does not have to give you a payment plan. Actually, almost all dentists won't. Carecredit declines most applicants as well. What are people supposed to do right? I ended up losing my tooth today, after a great amount of pain and suffering. Goodluck.
Reply:no
Reply:No dentist HAS to give anyone a payment plan. Look for one that will. If you have a long-standing relationship with your dentist, your chances of negotiating a payment plan are infinitely better than if you have never been there before.

Reply:They don't have to,but they should work with you on a payment plan. If you have trouble go to www.AffordableDental4All.com for big savings.

Emergency Dental Work While Pregnant!?

I was sitting in the office today, and I spit a large sized filling into my hand! It was really strange! But anyway, the filling came from a lower right molar, and unfortanately most of the tooth is gone now, what is left will probably need to be extracted. Also... Somewhere on the left side I've been told my wisdom teeth are coming in... I called the dentist and he said he couldn't see me without a signed slip from my doctor. Well, when I called the doctor, told them what I needed done, and that I was 15 weeks... She said, "Oh... Well... I don't think so..." So now... It's waiting game on whether or not I will be able to go to the dentist Thursday...

Were you ladies allowed to have extractions and or fillings done at around this stage of pregnancy? I'm in agony!! Thanks!

Emergency Dental Work While Pregnant!?
yes. I have had over 5 grand in dental woek done. ever since i found out i was preggo i just kept going. once a month i had root canals, extractions and fillings. as matter of fact I go in tomorrow for annother extraction and I am 38 weeeks . I dont see why your dr. say no..this is my third baby and i have been getting my teeth major overhauled woth 2 pregnancies...i hope u can to..
Reply:i had fillings done and i had wisom teeth pulled and i was about 5 months along.
Reply:Well I had fillings done when I was 12 weeks.Your supossed to wait till your 13 weeks and further. You should be able to.Good luck!!
Reply:You can get an extraction done while pregnant you just can't be put under and can't get heavy pain meds but yes it can be done. You can also have fillings done while pregnant. My Dr gave me a paper stating that I can have X-rays with abdominal sheild, antibiotics (such as penicillin, amoxicillin but no Tetracycline or Sulfa), local anesthesia without Epinephrine, Extractions, Pain medication may have Tylenol #3 if past first trimester but only X-tra strength tylenol in the first trimester.
Reply:The extractions of wisdom teeth are done under general anasthesia sometimes, maybe your OBGYN thinks that is how you want to have it done.

It can also be done under local but clearly more people prefer to go under.

You CAN have emergency dental work it is just best not to.

See if you can get the filling cleaned and packed, sometimes they can place a temporary type of filling that is kind of soft, you might be able to do that without any local anasthesia.

Reality is, tooth pain is probably one of the most painful things if it is bad, and tylenol is not going to do it, and taking hardcore pain killers is stupider, it is much better to just go get local anasthesia once or twice and do all of your dental work.
Reply:It is not safe for you to have dental work done. You cannot receive anesthetic drugs without causing harm to the baby. You also cant get all the dental X rays. There is also a correlation between dental work during pregnancy and PREMATURE LABOR. This is a crucial time in your babies development. My advice to you is to use a little bit of ambisol, and try to avoid foods that irritate your teeth. You are not the only woman to ever do through this. When you see your beautiful baby this will all be worth it. Good luck.

I don't have much money, in the process of getting dental insurance, where can i get emergency dental help?

Im in so much pain. I signed up for dental insurance, but it won't go into affect until 2 months from now. Where can i go for help in norfolk, va??

I don't have much money, in the process of getting dental insurance, where can i get emergency dental help?
Actually there are not dental insurances that I know of that will pay for something that is considered a pre-existing condition. So if you go to the emergency room and try to bill your insurance before it goes into effect than they won't pay for it. Any treatment you seek is going to have to come out of your pocket. Check into any dental schools in your area, they may be able to get you in at a reduced rate than a normal private practice. Also check for clinics in your area that accept payment on a sliding scale. Meaning depending on what your income is will depend on how much you pay. At the very least you may be able to see your regular MD who may be able to prescribe you something for your pain, and an antibiotic if you have any infection going on. Good luck.
Reply:you should do some research yourself. Just type in dentist or dental insurance and then your zip code and/or city and state. That should get the ball rolling. My best wishes for ya!
Reply:A nice bottle of Crown Royale goes a long way
Reply:Go to the emergency room at a hospital during normal business hours (around 10am would be perfect).

The dentist in the hospital will def be in and if it's an emergency they can't deny you treatment.

You can send the bill to your insurance company after you start getting it. They usually pay 6 months worth before the start date. but then again they may refuse and you may have to pay in instalments
Reply:Instead of dental insurance, try a discount benefits provider. Visit http://www.mybenefitsplus.com/dlittle. No waiting period, all specialists included, pre-existing conditions included except orthodontic treatment already in progress. No age limit, change dentists whenever you like

Why does the NHS pretend there is emergency dental treatment?

our own dentist doesnt answer calls out of hours even when bound by contract.

NHS direct gives out numbers reluctantly that dont answer either.

Does this help only exist on paper?

Why doesnt any NHS lierature or websites mention urgent dental care?

Why does the NHS pretend there is emergency dental treatment?
hey there good question for this but id just like to say 2 days ago i had major toothache it went on over xmas so i decided to call my dentist (was closed and the nhs number was on the answer fone)..i called this nunber and had to wait for 1 and half hours still no reply other then to b told i am in a cue ,

i was sick of waiting and hung up , i checked websites and yes the only info i cud find was nhs dental helpline nothing advising you of emergency help ...... (not too sure why)

in the end i called my local hospital who gave me a different nhs number ..i called this number and he called me bk within 15 minutes as promised , she gave me a number and luckly sumone answered and i got the appointment for 5pm on the same day (had some travelling to do as there was nothing in my area)...

but now i cant complain my tooth is out and no more pain .....

the best thing i advise is call ure local hospital and they will b able to help.....

best of luck

(another possibility as for not very good service is all the job cuts within nhs , they did used to be a lot betta just a idea)

I know it is the general practice that if you currently attend an NHS dentist, then you *may* be seen at your nearest dental hospital - it is at their discretion and you will still have to make whatever payment that arises for whatever procedure you have undergone (though this is still cheaper than attending an NHS dentist!) but this depends on whether you are in employment or whether you obtain certain monetary benefits which will have to be proven with an exemption card.

Some dental surgeries have both private and NHS patients on their books. It is clear that private patients have a higher/increased chance of getting an appointment compared to those that are NHS patients!

Is it an emergency dental visit when your gumline is disappearing around a tooth that is 3/4 of the way gone?

Ok, recently I had serious tooth aches. Up until January. Since then, the pain is gone but now I find, with an inspection with my tongue, that in the rear of my mouth, one of my molars is 3/4 of the way gone, as if it's rotten or something I dunno, and my gumline is disappearing around it. It is highly sensative and food often is stuck in this little hole, and I have to fish it out with my finger and it's very painful. So, is this worth an expensive trip to the dentist and classified as an emergency?

Is it an emergency dental visit when your gumline is disappearing around a tooth that is 3/4 of the way gone?
The simple answer to your question is yes, if your gumline is receeding then you have gum disease, and if you don't get the right treatment the gum disease will spread. Be kind to yourself to your teeth and above all your gums, for without your gums; your teeth won't have anything to secure them in place. Nothing beats your own natural teeth, not unless you think dentures are a fashion statement!)
Reply:Hate to tell you this... (I used to work in a dental office)...The reason why the pain is gone is because the nerve is now dead. Tooth pain is how your mouth lets you know "somethings wrong here." This prob won't go away. The nerve may be dead, but there is probably an infection in there just brewing around... It will blow up when you least expect it. Your face will swell and the pain is way worse than what you have felt so far. Gum disappearing? you may have periodontal disease as a result from this tooth that is decaying. Get that tooth out and everything will feel so much better...trust me. When was the last time you had your teeth cleaned?

Well... good luck with this!

I feel for ya!!!
Reply:Well what you have is two problems. If it is sensitive to heat then it is generally irreversible pulpitis, in which case you will need root canal treatment more commonly known as RCT. The RCT will depend on whether there is sufficient tooth structure and whether there is sufficient periodontal support which is your gum and underlying bone.

Moreover if you don't take care of it it will become a chronic infection and in some cases depending on your immune system and other factors can exacerbate into an emergency.

Bottom line you either need to take it out or fix it. If you take it out and you can fix it you will regret it later.

Good Luck
Reply:Since the tooth has been hurting you since January, I wouldn't call the dentist in on their day off. Wait until Monday %26amp; then get in for an exam %26amp; x-ray. Sounds like your going to want to have this widsom tooth taken out. Good luck
Reply:If You still have Sensitivity in the Tooth and Root it can Be Crowned. You may have to have a Root Canal though
Reply:Im not sure but if you ever see something abnormal (your gumline disappearing) you should get in as sooon as possible to prevent damage to your teeth. Also it might mean you need to get a crown filled. Thats what happened with my mom
Reply:Call a dentist or find one and tell them. And get in for an appt. right away. Make sure it is a good dentist.

I went to a new dentist last year in Sept. for some work. He messed up a lot of stuff with my back teeth!! I am just now getting out of that pain, but need more work. The new dentist I had to get several months ago is great. Ask friends who they go to.

My new dentist had to fix a lot of what the other dentist did!!! I do not know what my options are but do want to make a complaint about the other dentist.

Can't afford emergency dental care?

I am experiencing intense pain and losing sleep over this tooth. I am in need of a root canal and altogether $2000 worth of dental care out of my pocket. I simply cannot afford this but am in desperate need. What are my options?

Can't afford emergency dental care?
Many dental offices offer outside financial plans such as CareCredit or Unicorn. These plans offer 1 year no interest if you are approved but hit you hard with interest if you do not pay it off in 1 year. Otherwise, bank loan

Patients with such dental needs as prophylaxis (cleanings), restorations (fillings), bridges and single crowns, periodontal care (gums), and full and partial dentures are seen in the appropriate treatment areas, where dental students provide quality care at a minimal fee under the supervision of faculty dentists.

If you require more involved treatment, such as advanced restorative work, extensive periodontal treatment, orthodontics, root canal therapy, oral surgery, or complex crown and bridge work, you will be treated in one of our specialty areas. These specialty areas are staffed by graduate dentists, many of whom have years of experience and are continuing their studies. Dental care in the specialty areas is performed under the supervision of faculty dentists. Because of the complex nature of this care, treatment costs are somewhat higher than in the general dental care centers, although they are still less than those in the private sector.

Have you ever had a dental emergency just before Christmas?

Were you able to get an appointment or did you have to wait until the New Year?

Have you ever had a dental emergency just before Christmas?
If this were to happen, I would go directly to my local hospital. If you let it wait until your dentist returns, it can lead to serious health problems. If there is a dentist on call, the hospital will call for him/her. If not, the hospital would give you a prescription to antibiotics and/or pain meds.
Reply:My dentist is a great Ohio State alumnus (just like me) and he came to the office just to fix my tooth. GO BUCKS!
Reply:Yes, a Hospital emergency room can probably give you something for infection/pain untill you can get to a dentist.

At least it will get you through the worst.

Nothing hurts worse than a bad tooth.
Reply:Do not wait. Your holidays will be miserable. I had an "emergency' on New Year's Eve afternoon - shattered 2 wisdom teeth by biting into a potato chip (really!). I called my dentist and he saw me right away and I spent New Year's Eve having my wisdom teeth extracted. Whine and cry, if necessary. Most dentists will see you in case of emergency.

What is flap surgery , weather it is dental emergency .?

it is where the dentist or periodontist cuts the gum and flaps is away from the teeth so that the root of the teeth can be accessed for complete cleaning of the root. The gum is then replaced and sutured into position so that healing can take place. Often this is done to reduce deep pockets. It depends on how severe your periodontal disease is as to whether or not it would be considered an emergency - probably doubtful as perio disease is a chronic condition rather than an acute one.

What do you in a dental emergency? Do you go to the regular emergency room or what?

well lemme tell you this. if you have insurance.... and you dont want to end up paying for the treatment anyways. wait to go to the dentist the following day. im sure you can find a couple dds that accept emergency patients.... tell ya my story, got an abscessed tooth and went to the er, cost me almost $600 and the insurance (medical) wont cover it, and the dental says i didnt see a dentist there so they wont cover it, and the next day i had to go have emergency root canal done and it cost me only $57 because the dental covered it then

What do you in a dental emergency? Do you go to the regular emergency room or what?
depends on what type of dental emergency for pain you can go to er you can also call your dentist, they usually have answering service for you to get advice for emergency situations
Reply:You can call your regular Dentist. Almost all of them have a paging service. If it is a real emergency, they'll take care of you.

What kind of dental emergency are you talking about?
Reply:You wait until morning and make an appointment. I have had 2 rot canals and a molar pulled so trust me.
Reply:you could, depends on the emergency. They have dental repair kits in stores like for lost fillings now, if you knocked out a tooth, go to the ER as they can put it in a solution to save it until you get to a DDS, your DDS should have an emergency number on his answering machine

Is this a dental emergency or just extreme tooth pain?

I have a back tooth with a visible cavity in it and I have lagged to go to the dentist because I did not have insurance.I have an appointment on 3/26 tho because we finally got insuance It hurt randomly pretty bad but would feel better with two tylenol...so today the tooth above it on top starts to hurt and I go brush and listerine (sometimes that helps) and all of a sudden my whole left side tight up to the front left tooth hurst worse than ever and has this cold kind of pullin gout feeling...radiating throbbing..earache...AWFUL PAIN....I took 2 aleve...still terrible...I just took one of my husbands vicodin its so bad...and I NEVER take vicodin...It been 10 minutes only so no change,,,,,should I go ti ER, or try to reschedule for monday, or just wait till the 26th still.....Thanks

Is this a dental emergency or just extreme tooth pain?
ok sounds like you might have an absesd tooth and it could be an emergency because if the poison gets in your bloodstream you could become ill and possibly die,if you cant afford to go to the dentist till monday then what i would do(and im not a doctor, dont get me wrong)but if you have any antibiotics in the house, antibiotics dont loose strenth like normal meds so if they are old,its ok to take them,i would say 1000 mg a day should help with the infection, even if someone else has some, ask family members, someone will have some.thats what you need to help fight the infection till you get to a doctor ok.also go on line to your serch engine and type in what to do for an absesed tooth and it should connect you with medical people who know more than me for sure.try ice packs on your cheek to keep the sweelling down.good luck
Reply:drink whisky. it will help numb the pain. this is what surgeons used back in the old days. it is also antiseptic
Reply:It is probably infected. When one tooth hurts, it can radiate pain in other teeth. Please call your Dr. now and get an antiobiotic.

It will relieve the pain shortly and prevent infection from spreading. Good Luck.
Reply:You poor thing! Yes whisky, or better yet, get Wild Turkey, it is like 100 proof, swish it around before you swallow, it will make you feel like you do not even have a tooth, LOL. And it probably is infected, unless you want to live with " Whiskey In The Jaro " I would try to get an earlier appt with the dentist.

Huge dental emergency!?

I have a denture that came out while I was trying to tighten it - in other words, I was messing w/ it when I probably shouldn't have been. I would go to the dentist to have it fixed but he really creeps me out and I was just there recently. My mom might get mad when she finds out. I want to glue it back in w/ some Krazy Glue or nail adhesive but I'm afraid it might poison me. So has anybody had experience w/ this type of thing? As you can tell, this is a very big problem and it is almost 2 a.m. where I am! thanks!

Huge dental emergency!?
You can buy kits to repair dentures at any drug store. They aren't expensive. The problem is that they often don't fix the denture permanently, and the tooth falls out again, after a while.
Reply:call the surgeon or dentist. there is an on-call MD available 24/7.
Reply:go home depot first thing in the morning and buy the special glue, they work, and you can really take it off too with oil-base remover when u want to; many dentist use those similar glue as well
Reply:NEATFREAK,

THE PROBLEM WITH THE USE OF LAY PERSON'S REPAIR IS THAT THIS HAS NO LONG TERM PERMANENT GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL WORK.

SURE YOU CAN BUY THE SUPERGLUE OR DENTURE REPAIR PATCHING KITS, BUT THIS WOULD ONLY BE USEFUL UNTIL YOUR DENTIST CAN HAVE A DENTAL LAB PROPERLY REPAIR THE ITEM.
Reply:get some polydent. the stuff you mentioned will poison you.
Reply:What kind of denture is it? Was it glued in before or is it meant to be removable?

I would go see the dentist because dental appliances are too expensive to try to do it yourself!

Dental emergency PLEASE help?

I live in Virginia beach, Va. --last night (friday night) i broke a tooth, and its KILLING me. I can't sleep. It's 4a.m. now and i feel like im gonna die! HOW do i get to a dentist on the weekend?? I'm pregnant so i cant even take any pain meds.

I need this tooth pullled asap and cant find any info on the internet. Please any suggestions!!??

Dental emergency PLEASE help?
ibuprofen is always the best pain medication for any type of dental pain, but since you are pregnant it does make it more diffcult. What you can do is contact your dentist that you already have by his pager, answering servie.....etc, and let him know the situation. Until you can get a safe prescriprion and type of walgreens or CVS should have a temporary filling material, that is located by the tooth brushes and toothpaste, that you can put on the tooth to help cover it so it can ease some pain, But you really need to speak to your current dentist and get a safe prescription or get seen and get it taken care of. I hope you feel better, and congrats on your pregnancy... ;)
Reply:If you can locate a 24-hour drugstore, go there and get some Anbesol; it's a topical pain-killer, and you won't remotely ingest enough to hurt your baby. You might also consider going to the ER. Good luck!
Reply:do you have a dentist - call their office number now!!! -

the answering service should be there - tell them what you have got -(at least my Dr has one)

your dentist may have a contract with an emergency DDS

who they can refer you to - and they should be there Saturday

IF THAT FAILS - look in the yellow pages under Dental and see if anybody handles emergencies

or in Yahoo! yellow pages - try 'Dental emergency'

best of luck - unfortunately, I know the feeling

had mine on Christmas Day!
Reply:Orajel MAY be safe for a pregnant woman. Double-check with a doctor first. It's over-the-counter and similar to the aforementioned Anbesol. You apply it with a swab.

There has gotta be a dental office open on weekends. However, you may have to do some traveling in order to get there.
Reply:call your ob or the maternity floor of your hospital. They can tell you what to take. Depending on how far along you are you can take different meds.

try them...
Reply:I'd go to the ER.

Seriously. If you're pregnant and you're in this much pain with your tooth - I'd trust them to give me the right amount and type of pain medication.

Many dental clinics have after hours emergency numbers. BUT again, you're pregnant and I personally would rather be seen and treated for pain by a physician not a dentist. Besides, you'd pay about as much to see a dentist for an emergency.
Reply:Go to the ER silly! There might very well be infection. The ER can help you with relief til you get to dentist. There is a chance dentist won't take tooth out til infection is gone.
Reply:Call your OB tell him exactly what happened and follow his advice .. Go to local ER and give them the name of you OB They have to get you stable until a dentist is available. An oral surgeon is always on call at local hospitals. Don't suffer hun please get help.
Reply:The best thing to do if you are in severe pain with a tooth problem is go to Accident %26amp; Emergency. There is no point in sitting around suffering. Tooth pain can be excrutiating and is considered an emergency if you are out of your mind with pain. Also you are pregnant and your baby may be distressed if you are distressed. Good luck, and remember, tooth pain is considered to be worse than childbirth!

Dental emergency help?

what can a person do when their teeth are so rotted that it has started destroying their gums.?my husbands front bottom teeth are just rotted sticks and his gums are almost gone in front, what can be done about the gums?

Dental emergency help?
if the infection has reached the gums, which it sounds like it has, it could have gone into the jaw bone. If that's the case he'll need to have some of the gum and jaw bone removed, maybe not a lot, but it won't stop spreading and he could lose a lot of bone if he waits. And, they would put him out to do this, so assure him, he wouldn't have to be afraid. Poor guy, hope it works out.
Reply:He should get those teeth pulled. It can be a serious health risk if you get an infection that spreads to your brain or heart. Sounds like it's about time to see a dentist.
Reply:Dentures
Reply:He should get those teeth pulled ASAP.
Reply:He needs to see a dentist immediately. I don't know what can be done, but recent studies have linked diseased gums and teeth to heart attack %26amp; stroke... even in young people!

Get him to a dentist NOW!
Reply:He needs to make an appointment with a dentist and get on antibiotics to hopefully heal the gum disease. The infection in the gums can run through the body and into the heart. This is an unbelievable and EXTREMELY SERIOUS PROBLEM.

He can mouthwash and gently brush with HYDROGEN PEROXIDE 2 or three times a day and it will begin healing the gums. It is at the drug store one dollar a quart. Very inexpensive. This is only a helping measure. From my own dentist, I have used it daily for 40 years and have very healthy gums and teeth.

GET TO THE DENTIST AND BE PREPARED FOR DENTURES.
Reply:Dentures, if at all possible try not to have to get a bottom one they are the ones I see patients complain the most about. Top they do the best with, although you cannot taste as well.

Dental Emergency but I have medicaid?

I live in Fl and have medicaid. Can anyone tell me how I can find a list of medicaid approved dentists in Fl.

Dental Emergency but I have medicaid?
Call your local medicaid office, or whom ever issued you medicaid. They will have a list of dentist that accepts that insurance.
Reply:Can you get one from your caseworker? Otherwise, get out the yellow pages and start calling. Also look up dental schools and call the health department.
Reply:Any state agency , and for an emergency most won't take you if your not swollen.
Reply:call your local medicaid office or try this website

http://www.fdhc.state.fl.us/Medicaid/hip...
Reply:To begin with, few dental procedures are covered by either Medicare or Medicaid. About the only Medicaid covered dental procedure would have to be one in which an Oral Surgeon was required and the procedure would have to be other than for extractions unless not doing so was deemed life threatening. First, call any dentist near you and explain the service you need and ask about coverage, you should very quickly learn if what you need is covered and that office can tell you who might provide you the service.
Reply:I dont think they do, do some research to see if you have coverage if not i will ecourage you to Check out this website.

Please help??!! Serious dental emergency??!!?

I had a very infected tooth extracted yesterday(2/15) and the dentist had trouble getting the whole tooth out! So, after much prodding, pulling, yanking, extreme pain and cutting, he got the last remaining piece of impacted tooth out! Well, he told me it would hurt a couple days, but I woke up today and I kid you not I had the worst pain I have ever experienced!(right up there with labor~!) anyway, no pain killers are touching the pain and i have been nautious and achy all day and felt lots of chills and fever! I finally went to my neighbor's house to check my temp and I only had the thermometer in like 2 minutes and it skyrocketed up to 103! Tell me, it is just getting worse, I can't get ahold of the dentist, do I need to go to emergency room??!! if i had a gun, i would probably shoot myself, that is how much pain i am in!

Please help??!! Serious dental emergency??!!?
yes, you need to go to the ER. They can give you stronger pain meds and also antibiotics so you don't get an infection. Sounds like your dentist did too much prodding and should have sent you to an oral surgeon instead...
Reply:Go to a Dentist!and fast!
Reply:It sounds like you have an infection. If you can't get in touch with your dentist, go to the ER or urgent clinic. You need to get on antibiotics right away. Good luck.
Reply:Yes, go to the ER right away.
Reply:Emergency room, Now!!!

No point going back to that dentist; he's made enough of a mess already and he's not professionally equipped to deal with someone presenting with a temperature of 103. You could be having a shock reaction to a drug he used ... but this is now a medical problem, not a dental one.

Good luck.
Reply:If you can't get ahold of your dentist- go the the E.R. Getting such a high temp isn't normal- you may have some sort of infection that requires antibiotics.
Reply:EW, you have an infection. Go to the ER or Urgent Care.
Reply:I'M SURPRISED THE DENTIST DIDN'T PUT YOU ON ANTIBIOTICS TO PREVENT THIS INFECTION.

YOU NEED TO GO TO THE E.R. IMMEDIATELY, AND GET ANTIBIOTICS AS WELL AS MEDS. FOR THE PAIN AND SWELLING YOU HAVE.

I SUGGEST MOTRIN 800mg EVERY 4-6 HOURS FOR THE SWELLING/PAIN AND THE APPROPRIATE ANTI.FOR THIS INFECTION.

EITHER AMOXICILLIN, CLINDAMYCIN OR METRONIDAZOLE SHOULD BE USED.
Reply:Go to the ER....it's the infection...you need stronger antibiotics and pain medicine........
Reply:Hello. I have learnt a lot about teeth lately, not qualified however but a lot of personal experience. I think you need to get your dentist to refer you to an oral and maxilofacial surgeon. Im my opinion, your dentist should not have taken an impacted wisdom tooth out (if it was a wisdom tooth). However, you can get after this, dry roots or jaw bone damage. If it is still hurting, then get referred and PDQ as I know how bad tooth ache/infection pain can be. Not nice. If you have any other roots in your mouth too, then get them out now, teeth especially in the back top can cause sinus related problems and nasty infections. I hope this help, I had operations where I had to had gums slit and even they did not hurt too much after. Get salt watering in the meantime. I have another tooth op monday (19th feb). :(

Good luck with it.

T.
Reply:he was not supposed to pull it if it was still infected. Did he give you antibiotic first? If not then that is probably what is wrong. That would be like doing surgery on an infected wound. Not smart!! you need to go to the emergency room if it gets too bad

I have a friend who has no insurance & needs emergency dental work. Can he apply thru the state for coverage?

My friend has had some really bad tooth aches lately. He had a crown and it fell out. Now he needs his tooth taken out but has no insurance. How does he go about getting emergency dental coverage thru the state (MI)?

I have a friend who has no insurance %26amp; needs emergency dental work. Can he apply thru the state for coverage?
No. If he already has the problem there's no way the state is going to cover it because they know they'll have to pay for it. Sorry!
Reply:You may want to check with local community colleges, the dental students there can perform the same tasks as a dentist for a fraction of the cost.

Good Luck to your friend..there is nothing more painful than a toothache.
Reply:If it is a true emergency then he should go to the ER and have it treated. They will apply for assistance through the government while he is in the hospital.

I can tell you now he will get the minimum of everything. They do not put on crowns. They do not repair anything. They pull teeth. (Ask me...). But if it is infected there's not much he can do, unless he can find money.
Reply:Trying any state programs will take some time. You may want to try a dental clinic if your friend has Med-care or something similar, the clinics will take this type of coverage and do have sliding scales for payment. But again the dental clincs are booked months in advance so it could take some time to get an appointment. You could try to see if Dentist take CARE CREDIT which is a like a dental credit card. If you can pay off the balance within 12 months it is ZERO % APR or you can opt to have an extended payment plan of up to 60 months with an APR of 11.9% (which is lower APR than most credit cards). If your friend has low or bad credit they could get a co-applicant. But by all means get to a dentist ASAP. If your friend is having a tooth ache it could be bad decay into the tooth needing a Root Canal and since the tooth is in a weak state it will need a crown over the Root Canal tooth. For the tooth that lost the crown, it could mean there is so much decay under the existing crown that it has "eaten" away the "glue" . But get to see a dentist with a FULL exam and FULL x-rays so the dentist can diagnosis ALL problems. Some Dentists will give up to 50% off new patients. But make sure to get a FULL exam AND FULL MOUTH x-rays (not just bite-wings also called BWX). Hope all goes well.

We have better coverage for dental insurance than most insurance companies, because we aren't insurance. We offer dental, prescriptions, vision and chiropractic for only $20/mo and we cover just about everything. Our coverage is up to 86%! Feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions.

Your friend could always enroll and get his ID #. The approved dentist should take it. I used the prescription plan before I got my membership card. The doctor generally just needs a couple of numbers to process the info.

It's good to have a plan, not just for emergencies.

Why aren't there any emergency dental offices open on the holidays?

I know it is horrible to want people to work during the holidays, but I am in pain.

Why I can go to an Emergency Room for health reasons, take my cat to the vet ER for cat issues, but remain out of luck for dental reasons because they are closed from two days before Christmas until two days after Christmas? Surely dentists are just as important and needed, but they take 5 days off for a holiday? (They only perscribed 3 days worth of pain killers.)

** I had a wisdom tooth and a molar removed on Thursday, and I am still in extreme pain and my face is swollen. I have followed every bit of the dentists’ instructions including ice packs, elevating my head when I sleep, salt water, antibiotics etc., but the only way I would be able to get any help would be to call a dentist at home. It shouldn't have to be that way.

P.S. Anyone know where to find clove oil? The assistant said it would help with pain, but no drug store has it.

Why aren't there any emergency dental offices open on the holidays?
You can use a regular emergency room for dental problems, especially if you only need enough pain medicine to get you through a day or two. If you have a serious emergency that requires attention, some hospitals have some dentists or oral surgeons on call and they can get them in to see you.

Otherwise, no dentist can work alone while treating patients so this means he/she would have to have at least one other person there with them and that person would have to be paid. Face it - NOBODY wants to go to the dentist on Christmas and the odds that you would get enough money to pay the staff person for hanging around are somewhere between slim and none.

Having said that, I will also suggest that you might be able to find your dentist through an answering service or even the phone book. I saw a patient last night (Saturday) who called me at home. She brought me a bag of sugar coated walnuts to say thank you. I'd rather sit at home with my wife and relax than sit in an office just waiting and wondering if the phone will ever ring. So would you.
Reply:I suppose there COULD be dental emergency rooms in major metropolitan areas. Perhaps there are. Some advertise "24 hour emergency care" in the Yellow Pages. Personally, I would PREFER to see my own patients of record outside of hours, if they are in pain, than have them go elsewhere. Report It

Reply:Go to the emergency room at a local hospital!
Reply:I'm a dentist.

I have news for you: your family dentist, like your family physician, does not exist to be available to you at your beckoned call. Like every other professional, we have working hours and non-working hours. Emergency rooms (and emergency vets), on the other hand, exist to handle emergencies. It's absolutely ridiculous to compare us with a hospital's emergency department!

Do not call the doctor at his home unless he gave you his number for the purpose of doing so. It is incredibly rude and profoundly disrespectful to him as a person. If he intended for patients to contact him outside of business hours, he would have provided you with a number to call. Most dentists have some sort of answering service to handle these things, where either the service itself or a dental assistant will handle the question.

Depending on how the wisdom tooth was extracted, pain and swelling can actualy increase for up to three to four days before it decreases. You're still within the range of normal.

Moreover, are you actually swollen? If I had a nickel for every time a patient claimed to be swollen when they had exceedingly mild or absolutely no swelling to speak of, I'd never have to pick up a drill ever again.

If you are truly (and significantly) swollen, and if the swelling continues to increase tomorrow, and if you're having difficulty opening your mouth and/or swallowing, then you should make a trip to the ER. You may be developing an infection. Although fairly rare after extractions, they certainly do occur--especially when there was an underlying infection prior to a surgical extraction.

If you're a smoker, you're also more likely to get dry-socket, which is significantly painful. Smokers, whether they follow the doctor's instructions or not, are more prone to dry-socket. Dry-socket is not a dental emergency. Neither is pain, in my book.

In general, more than two days post-op, you should not be putting ice on your face. Moist heat is appropriate (it dilates blood vessels and increases blood flow to the area which facilitates healing).

If your problem doesn't warrant a trip to the ER, you should bite the bullet and wait until Tuesday. By then, some dental office should be open.

In your defense, however, I will say this: there are a lot of doctors out there who are very miserly when it comes to prescribing pain pills. Your doctor seems to be one of them. You might bring up this point next time you see him. When I extract teeth, I always provide patients with at least 5 days-worth of Vicodin.

Some doctors are such ******* that they send adult patients home with three days of Tylenol #3. I prescribe Tylenol #3 for children.

Free emergency dental in ireland or scotland?
If you telephone NHS 24 on 08454 24 24 24 and explain the situation emphasising that you are a tourist and it is an emergency then they will help.

There is a dental hospital in Glasgow which they refer people in that area to. I am not sure what is available in Edinburgh
Reply:You will be lucky!

My partner needed emergency dental treatment one weekend and the nearest place to do it was 200 miles away! Needless to say he suffered and is still suffering as he cant get a dentist to take him on NHS and cant afford to go private.
Reply:believe it or not I work for national insurance numbers and you most definetly do not need one for a dentist. however you will prob have to pay. but everyone does so no change there. you would get free dental if you where on benefit and would need a number then- but i take it as you dont have a number your not on benefit.... feel sorry 4 you hate the dentist

How do i declare a dental emergency?

Hey all. Recently i lost a filling in a jaw tooth and with the holidays and such i didnt have the time to get it replaced, now this filling was a big one, had it in place after a root canal years ago, Since losing it most of the tooth has broken away and now i need whats left taken out as its causing a lot of pain.

I have the appointment with the dentist set up but they cant get me in for another 2 weeks, Ive been popping tylenol like candy to deal with the pain and it helps alot but i can't keep that up for fear of the damage it can cause.

So my question is "Can i declare some kind of dental emergency to get this sucker out?"

How do i declare a dental emergency?
Call the White House and have the President declare your tooth in a state of dental emergency.

Then call around to local oral sugeons and tell them your story so they can get you in ASAP and get the situation handled.

Also keep in mind that when a tooth is root therapied (canal), it is imperative to get the tooth restored with a crown right away. Procrastinating like you did after it was initially fixed and even after the filling fell out will only lead to pain and further breakdown. All of this could have been avoided if you would have handled the tooth properly after the root canal.

Good luck!!!
Reply:Two weeks is too long to suffer with a bad tooth.

If you have a regular dentist who won't see you immediately

with this emergency, DUMP HIM, he is worthless.

Start calling different dentists until you can find one

that will see you immediately.

Most dentists are able to fit an emergency patient in

while they are working on their scheduled patients.
Reply:You should look for a dentist in your area who takes emergency appointments, that way they have spaces available for situations like this. Your dentist should realize its an emergency and might want to stay later one day or book you into a cancellation to get it done sooner. Maybe tell them you're looking for another dentist and see what they do for you.

Dental emergency ....I dont have any money and am in a lot pain.. i live in los angeles.....what can i do?

I have a back tooth either a molar or a wisdom tooth that is hurting very badly.....im in a state of dental emergency .... however i dont have any money.... what can i do?

Dental emergency ....I dont have any money and am in a lot pain.. i live in los angeles.....what can i do?
for the pain: take OTC ibuprofen like motrin. OTC eugenol has helped some people with the throbbing pulsing pain too. eugenol is a natural oil that dentists use all the time to sedate pulps that are infected or irritated. keep the area clean, gurgle warm salty water, avoid smoking.

to see a dentist: you live in an area where they are 3 dental school and a crap load of hospitals. ucla, usc, and loma linda all have dental schools where you can receive quality care at a fraction of the price. county USC or UCLA have oral surgery dept and probably take emergency walkins daily for free. call the hospitals and see if you can be seen. you'll probably have to wait all day to see someone, but you should be able to see a surgery.

good luck
Reply:Challenge the Undertaker.
Reply:Call this place first, there are a lot of students studying

to be a dentist or to assist a dentist. Don't worry, the

dentist will be supervising while they are doing the

procedure on a patient.

I'm sure they can help an make some kind of

arrangement.

DENTAL EMERGENCY...but no insurance...plz help???

So I have no dental insurance %26amp; I got this absess on my gum that hurts like I just got punched in the jaw...I don't know where to go or what to do? Please any advice??? I live in Reno NV %26amp; I have no clue if there are any services that can/will help with emergency dental situations?

DENTAL EMERGENCY...but no insurance...plz help???
Wow, I wish I had seen your question earlier. If you have not YOU NEED TO BE SEEN ASAP. Rinse with peroxide every hour. And if you are worried about $$ go to HAWC clinic , it is on wells avenue and it is free/low cost they will help you no matter (but it is nice).....
Reply:You could just go to the Washoe ER. All hospitals have on-call Dentists or Oral Surgeons for dental emergencies, and if it warrants it, the on call physicians will call them for you or send you to a local dentist who will aide you.

Good Luck!

Also, in the interest of options, the loan company I used for my wife's dental care was called "Dental Care, Yes." I do not work for them, but I have an account with them and have been satisfied with their service and reasonable rates (mine is 11.99%)

Reply:If you call an oral surgeon.. that is where you will end up in the long run and if it is an abcess they will need to open it up and drain it.. they will take care of it for you and work with you as far as your financials go. Don't wait ! I worked for an oral surgeon and if you put it off the abcess can be toxic and make you sick.
Reply:You need to go to the dentist asap! If you have an abscess you could go septic really quick and then your life could be in danger. If you explain to the dentist that you don't have insurance they will be receptive to setup a payment plan.

You have a medical emergency go to a dentist right away!
Reply:do you have a dental school near by. They usually have clinics or have discounts because it is a learning experience for the students.
Reply:If you are reasonably credit worthy here is a link to a card that is easy to get and is used just for medical and dental care- most dentists accept it too.

http://www.carecredit.com/

No I don't work for them, I have used the card in the past though for dental emergencies, you can apply online and if approved they give you a card number and credit limit within seconds, that you can use right away at a dentist office

They can even tell you what dentists in the area you live, accept the card.
Reply:http://TheBestBenefitsPlus.com

I have had an abscess and I have also used Care Credit at the chiropractor. The credit card ended up charging me a ridiculous amount of interest.

Abscesses need to be taken care of quickly (as if you had a choice anyway, with all that pain.)

Check out the link above. I can get you a discount dental plan and you can get your member # immediately. We can check the providers in your area and get it done! I am a broker and I think that the pain you probably have is the worst that I have ever felt and I have chronic back pain!

The plan is $20/mo. and covers chiropractic, vision and prescription as well as dental. Contact me with questions. Good luck!

Dental emergency?

My sister's 4 year old child is having problems with a tooth (the cap is loose). The tooth has been bleeding pretty badly for the past 3 days. She called her dentist and they said that it was not a big deal, and they couldnt do anything until the cap fell off. Her child has been vomitting badly for the past 2 days and now she says the area around the tooth is black (her child has been puking all day and now she is gastly white). She thinks she needs to take her to the er, but the childs dentist acted like it wasnt a big deal (you tend to believe what a doctor says). What could it be and do you think she should take her to the er immediately?

Dental emergency?
more than likely it is her gums that are bleeding....the er will do nothing...call the dentist again and tell them you really think she should be seen....i have seen this before alot in my practice
Reply:Go to the ER now!!!
Reply:Yeah go to hospital, and skip the waiting room.
Reply:Yes, take her to the ER. My 11 year old daughters' dentist, refused to put a cap on a chipped tooth, they said it would kill the tooth, because she is so young. The dentist also told me that if the tooth is turning black it may be dying.
Reply:Yes, she should go before the child gets dehydrated. I would call the dentist office again and complain too. Speak with a higher up...

Dental Emergency?

Can you go to the Emergency room at a hospital for an Emergency dental issue? Or are there specific hospitals for tooth problems? I'm having a severe tooth ache that NOTHING is helping it. I am 5 weeks pregnant and don't know what to do. The pain is to the unbearable point.

Dental Emergency?
Hi,

Where I live they have a dentist on call for the hospital. If you have an abscess it can make you really sick and you will need antibiotics. If you have a tooth ache you can get oil of cloves at the pharmacy. That will calm it down. Take care, and congratulations on your baby.
Reply:Call the hospital. Some of them do hve a dental clinic inside of them %26amp; they can give you a long lasting pain reliever...shot. Until you can get to the dentist tomorrow.

I've been there...feel better if you can.
Reply:Go to the ER...they can give you someting to help untill you can be seen by a dentest
Reply:of course you can go to the emergency room the doctor will give you medication for pain ,you have to inform the doctor that your pregnant some pain relievers is contraindicated for pregnant woman, most of the emergency room have dental on-call they will refer you if needed
Reply:Yes go to the Emergency, alot of them have dental chairs in the Emergency part and can take a look at which tooth is bugging you

Then they can prescribed and antibiotic if its infected or some medication to kill the pain your having,Just remember to tell him tat your 5 wks pregnant and Congratulations
