What happens if you..............?

Have no health insurance and something terrible happens to you like a major injury or cancer or something? How do you get treated? Or do you even get treated?

Does anyone here work in a hospital billing department or with social services and could tell me. It's something I worry about constantly as there have been times when I've had no insurance. What about dental emergencies?

I live in Texas, in case that matters.

Thanks a whole bunch!

What happens if you..............?
That first answer got ridiculous. I have been employed continuously since I was 15 yrs old. I do not have health insurance because my employer does not offer it. I do not make enough money to pay a car payment, insurance, rent and daily bills, along with groceries, gasoline, clothing (only when absolutely necesary) and still have money for insurance.

But, in my experience the Emergency room HAS to help you. They cannot turn you away because you don't have insurace. And even some clinics will accept you for a fee anywhere from $50-$100 and if you tell the Dr. your situation they will sometimes have free prescription vouchers you can use to purchase medicine or free samples in the office.

But, as she said long term care or terminal illness is a very different story and usually has no recourse other than applying for government assistance.
Reply:A friend of mine had to have a 23 pound tumor removed from her belly. She didn't have any kind of insurance. She was in the state of Florida. She applied for some governmental service where she got the surgery paid for. I don't think you can get it for terminal/long term stuff like cancer. I know that the hospital is obligated to save your life whether or not you can pay.

But why don't you go out and get some insurance. It seems like you just want to collect from someone else for your health woes. Get off your butt!
Reply:the government ususally funds such expenses
Reply:go to a state run hospital.
