What is causing my tooth pain?

Hi everyone. I am having really bad tooth pain in my lower left molar so I just came from an emergency dental clinic to see what the problem is. Unfortunately, he took an x-ray and said he saw nothing wrong. The tooth in question has a filling. I thought that the x-ray would show a crack or hole in it, but it didn't. However, when my roomate looked at it, she said she saw a hole! What other things could be causing my pain and how would I get it fixed???

If the dentist saw everything fine with it then it shoudnt be anything too serius. I think you have some kind of inflamation under your tooth. If the area under your tooth is swollen even just a bit that you dont know, its going to put pressure on the nerve connected to that tooth and cause some pain. If this problem persist I would recoment visiting another dentist.
Reply:There are quite a few things it could be amazingly enough.

Referred pain into the teeth could be the problem especially if the tooth has been checked out - you must do this.

There is a condition called TMJ which is stress on the working joint of the jaw - the hinge bit below the ear. Place your finger there and open and shut you mouth you will feel it open and shut.

Stress on this joint can cause a lot of problems.

Check if you are a tooth grinder, hold your jaw tightly off and on through the day. If you do then change it by using this method.

Place your tongue in the cluck postion but do not cluck. Now shut your mouth you will notice your jaw will now be relaxed.

Also to release stress in this area, place your finger along the cheek edge of your mouth. Then place your finger between your teeth and gently bite and hold for 20 seconds this will also release the tighness.

Have you had a neck rick or whiplash this may be transfered pain into a tooth. You can see a chiropractor for this.

There is a good book Taking control of TMJ by Robert Upgaard if you are interested.
