Dental access centres (in the UK)?

I just wondered what the criteria was for getting treatment at a dental access centre - I know they deal with dental emergencies like toothache and stuff for people who're not registered with an NHS dentist, but what about non-emergencies?

I have a few cavities which need fillings, but they aren't causing me any pain currently. I've been trying to register with an NHS dentist because I can't afford private treatment, but none in my area are accepting new patients at the minute. So I was wondering if I could get fillings at the dental access centre, even though it's not an emergency? Because if I leave the cavities, I know they'll just get worse and I'd rather get them filled now BEFORE it becomes an emergency!!

Dental access centres (in the UK)?
they are there purely for emergencies so what you need to do is turn up and say you are in pain..they may just place temporary fillings and then you really need to find a dentist.. i know cos i work in one
Reply:Dear Jen,

I am sorry to know that you are having some early stage capivities and you are worried.

Jen, if you are to live in the U.K., a third world country among the developed nations, then please take care of the following :

a) Prevention is better than cure. Now start taking

precautions at this stage for your other teeth, as well as

other health issues.

b) In this country, unless it is emergency, nothing works. Even

if you go crying (really) in pain to the emergency of your

own, you will have to wait from 2 hours to 5 hours in any

hospital.

c) But if you summon an ambulance, they will attend you.

d) I respect your concern at this stage of your dental

problem, better get the fillings now otherwise the situation

would certainly go out of your hands and you could lose

your teeth or need root canaling etc. if infection started.

e) Private treatment is not only expensive but also rare in the

U.K.

f) If still any problems, go to India, buy a plane ticket for

300 Pounds + filling of your teeth will cost you hardly

20 pounds per teeth from the best dentist + see the Taj +

One week stay in New Delhi for 100 Pounds and come

back. All will not cost you 700 Pounds.

Many of my friends are doing the same now.

Good luck living in Great Britain.

Reply:Dental hospitals will only treat you if you aren't registered with dentist and you are having extreme pain or swelling, or if its an emergency. They will only treat your toothache and will tell you to register with a dentist for further treatment
