Ok...At my wit's end! Bout to go CRAZY!?

I've developed another rash or SOMETHING!

I have absolutely NO idea what this is... I have tiny bumps all over my stomach, back, arms, chest, and upper legs! It's itches sooo bad that I've actually drawn blood from scratching them! I have huge claw marks on my stomach and back, and it looks (and feels) terrible! The skin all over my body actually BURNS. I've been taking Benadryl (per doc's instruction) since last Friday, with absolutely NO relief!

The only possible things that come to mind are shingles and scabies... and as far as I know I haven't been in contact with anyone who suffers from either of those!

I also started taking Lortab about 2 weeks ago, due to some serious dental emergency work. But I have taken them pre-pregnancy with no problems!

Does anyone have ANY insight!?

This is seriously making me go INSANE!

Help!!

Ok...At my wit's end! Bout to go CRAZY!?
sounds to me like you have "Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy - PUPPP's"

I really feel for you.....
Reply:Sounds like shingles, my wife got them when she was preg. Good luck
Reply:Could be prurigo...

Reply:Pregnancy changes the way your body reacts to certain drugs. I would bet that it has something to do with the Lortab, because that is a side effect. Good luck!
Reply:Have you ever had the Chicken pocks? sounds like it could be that too.....I have also had scabies, and it does not take much to get it from someone, it is very contagious. You need to go to the doctor. if it is scabies they should give you a cream to put on your skin, and tell you to wash down ALL you sheets and stuff because scabies will be on them too.
Reply:It may be a condition known as PUPPP, and you will need to see your doctor for treatment. It is fairly common, although quite miserable!

Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of Pregnancy (PUPPP)

its a common skin rash for pregnant woman. My sister had it and it made her totally miserable, but that's about it...there were no long term effects for her or the baby.

Have you tried a bath with oatmeal? (like Aveeno?)

make sure your doctor knows about the lortab during pregnancy though-

good luck, I hope it clears up soon.
Reply:uhh take a reactine.. water makes it worse so dont over bath for a few days n go in room temp water.. also it sounds like hives or PUPPPS most importantly DONT ITCH!
Reply:I did read something about a rash you can develope in pregnancy....I read it in a parenting book. ugh...for the life of me I can't think of what it is called. I would tell my doctor about it...they should be able to ge you some relief or send you to a dermatologist to help you!

Good Luck!
Reply:Did you say you are pregnant? If so, I had a rash with my first pregnancy. It used to drive me crazy! The doctor told me it was a rash from being pregnant. Something having to do with hormones. Nothing we could do about it. Good luck.
Reply:Definitely sounds like PUPPP, but i would get this checked out ASAP because it could also be the more serious Prurigo. I included some info below. Also a great place for more info and everything pregnancy is www.about.pregnancy.com Best of luck to you....

Is it common to get itchy bumps on your abdomen?

Up to 1 percent of pregnant women develop a condition characterized by itchy, red bumps and larger patches of a hive-like rash on their bellies. This is called pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP) or polymorphic eruption of pregnancy.

PUPPP usually begins in the third trimester and is more common among women carrying twins and those having their first baby. The eruptions usually show up first on the abdomen around or in stretch marks (if you have any) and may spread to your thighs, buttocks, and arms. PUPPP is harmless for you and your baby, but it can itch like crazy!

Your doctor or midwife will want to see you for a diagnosis and will probably prescribe a topical ointment to give you some relief. She may also recommend an antihistamine. In severe cases, you may need a course of oral steroids.

PUPPP usually disappears within a few days after delivery, although it sometimes persists for several weeks. (In rare cases, it may even begin after you give birth.) Fortunately, it seldom appears again in subsequent pregnancies.

Even more rare than PUPPP is a skin condition called prurigo of pregnancy (or papular eruptions of pregnancy), which is characterized by many tiny bumps that may look like bug bites. These eruptions can occur anywhere on your body, but you're most likely to get them on your hands, feet, arms, and legs.

Although the eruptions can be itchy and annoying, prurigo of pregnancy appears to pose no risk to your baby. This condition generally starts around the beginning of the third trimester and may last for up to three months after you give birth.

In very rare cases, a pregnant woman will develop very itchy eruptions that start out like hives and then turn into large blistering lesions. This rash is called pemphigoid gestationis (or herpes gestationis, although it has nothing to do with herpes virus). The eruptions often start on the abdomen and spread to the arms and legs.

This condition is considered more serious than PUPPP because it may be associated with an increased risk for preterm delivery and fetal growth problems. It usually begins in the second or third trimester, but it can start anytime — even in the first week or two after you have your baby.

Pemphigoid gestationis can come and go throughout pregnancy, and it often flares up after delivery as well. It usually happens again in subsequent pregnancies and tends to be more severe.

Let your caregiver know if you develop any kind of rash during pregnancy. Whether or not the rash is related to your pregnancy, it's a good idea to have your caregiver evaluate it and recommend appropriate treatment or refer you to a dermatologist.
