Reply:call stony brook university. they have a dental program and you can get treatment there by dental students (overseen by a dentist - of course) don;t know what - how much they charge, but worth checking into. if not then then ask them what they recommend or try county health department
Reply:Stony brook University has one of the 4 dental schools in New York. The others are Columbia and NYU in the city, and Buffalo. So, on LI, Stonybrook would be the most practical for you.


Go there asap and register for the dental clinic. You will be treated at a greatly reduced fee. You will be treated by dental students under the supervision of a licensed dentist. All specialties are represented - so if you need root canal or surgery, it will be done there. The upside is greatly reduced fees and generally everything will be done correctly, as the students are carefully scrutinized, graded on these procedures, and perfection is taught and demanded. On the down side is the time factor. What might take an hour in a dentist's private office may take 3-4 one hour visits at the dental clinic, as the students are learning and are very slow, and every step must be checked by a professor and graded. You will get excellent work but it will take a while. Also, there is usually a long waiting list to get into the dental school clinic, so go register asap. If they can't take you right away, still register for future treatment. Then for treatment of the immediate emergency to a hospital that has a general dentistry residency program, where they will be able to treat the emergency problems. Good luck to you.!
Reply:Sorry about your pain. I know how miserable that can be. The dental schools might be a good idea. I'm not sure. Have you checked into dental discount plans? I found one in Florida that pays for most of my dental bills and it only cost me less than $100 per year. You might want to consider that. At least you get to pick your own dentist that way. I found my plan at http://dental-ppo.com You can search for plans in your zip code and they have lists of dentists in your area you can use.
