I have a friend who has no insurance & needs emergency dental work. Can he apply thru the state for coverage?

My friend has had some really bad tooth aches lately. He had a crown and it fell out. Now he needs his tooth taken out but has no insurance. How does he go about getting emergency dental coverage thru the state (MI)?

I have a friend who has no insurance %26amp; needs emergency dental work. Can he apply thru the state for coverage?
No. If he already has the problem there's no way the state is going to cover it because they know they'll have to pay for it. Sorry!
Reply:You may want to check with local community colleges, the dental students there can perform the same tasks as a dentist for a fraction of the cost.

Good Luck to your friend..there is nothing more painful than a toothache.
Reply:If it is a true emergency then he should go to the ER and have it treated. They will apply for assistance through the government while he is in the hospital.

I can tell you now he will get the minimum of everything. They do not put on crowns. They do not repair anything. They pull teeth. (Ask me...). But if it is infected there's not much he can do, unless he can find money.
Reply:Trying any state programs will take some time. You may want to try a dental clinic if your friend has Med-care or something similar, the clinics will take this type of coverage and do have sliding scales for payment. But again the dental clincs are booked months in advance so it could take some time to get an appointment. You could try to see if Dentist take CARE CREDIT which is a like a dental credit card. If you can pay off the balance within 12 months it is ZERO % APR or you can opt to have an extended payment plan of up to 60 months with an APR of 11.9% (which is lower APR than most credit cards). If your friend has low or bad credit they could get a co-applicant. But by all means get to a dentist ASAP. If your friend is having a tooth ache it could be bad decay into the tooth needing a Root Canal and since the tooth is in a weak state it will need a crown over the Root Canal tooth. For the tooth that lost the crown, it could mean there is so much decay under the existing crown that it has "eaten" away the "glue" . But get to see a dentist with a FULL exam and FULL x-rays so the dentist can diagnosis ALL problems. Some Dentists will give up to 50% off new patients. But make sure to get a FULL exam AND FULL MOUTH x-rays (not just bite-wings also called BWX). Hope all goes well.

We have better coverage for dental insurance than most insurance companies, because we aren't insurance. We offer dental, prescriptions, vision and chiropractic for only $20/mo and we cover just about everything. Our coverage is up to 86%! Feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions.

Your friend could always enroll and get his ID #. The approved dentist should take it. I used the prescription plan before I got my membership card. The doctor generally just needs a couple of numbers to process the info.

It's good to have a plan, not just for emergencies.
